Navnath Vishnu Nalawade
Village: Ghodegaon Sex: Male Age: 37 Disability: Left leg Two years after birth Naynath contracted polio. His parents being uneducated and illiterate did not immunize him, leading to the disease. They took him to a local traditional healer. The healer used herbal medicine to treat the infection. As time went by his left leg became weaker and thinner, resulting in his disability. Naynath is unable to work at his farm, as he cannot due extraneous work. As a result it is his wife that farms the land. Since they have one son and one daughter, and his mom lives with them, he still had to find a way to make more income to better sustain the family. This is especially true since the area has suffered from an extended period of drought, leading to poor or no crop yield. He owns a flour mill that assists the family apart from his wife’s work at their farm.
